Own It Campaign

My company decided to launch it's "Own It" campaign. To get employees involved, there was a contest between departments to show how we "Own" going green. My department decided to ride scooters to work to show how we try and save gas. While my colleagues weren't brave enough to actually ride the scooters, we were able to find some to post for a quick camera pose! LOL!

Quest to be a Renaissance woman

Whatever happened to the Renaissance man? You know...those people that had a thirst for knowledge and the drive to excel in multiple subjects? You would think that with such much information at our fingertips, people would be jumping for the chance to expand their knoweledge base.

Well I am on the quest to be a Renaissance woman. Education, music, art...next I would like to be fluent in a foreign language because something tells me the four years of French that I took in high school doesn't count. I would also like to try my hand at photography. Here's my picture of the St. Lous arch. Surprisingly enough, it was taken with a disposable camera. As soon as I recover from the gas prices, I'll buy a real camera and really see what kind of damage I can do! :)

Online student reflection

The dynamics of this class are certainly very interesting. This is not my first online class, and therefore I knew what to expect...or so I thought. I know that collaborating with classmates is important in an online setting to create a sense of community. However, I was not prepared for how strong the sense of community is in this class. It has felt somewhat overwhelming. Maybe it's because other students have been in previous classes with each other before. Or maybe it's because there is so much discussion, it's hard to keep up with it all. Either way, there is so much good information going back and forth, I just try to dive in and absorb it all.

That being said, I do believe that collaboration is an important part of an online learning environment. I also believe that group assignments contribute to the sense of community as well. I believe it's very easy to get caught up into one's individual assignment as far as meeting all of the requirements, meeting deadlines, etc... Group assignments provide the opportunity for students to not only share ideas, but work together in meeting their goals. I think one of my best online classes was one where we had a group that we worked with for all of the projects, however we were individually responsilbe for critiquing the project. I thought this was great because it created a sense of community, yet there was just enough individual work.

INSDSG 619

1) I want to take this course b/c I am in the process of developing online training for the company that I work for. Currently, I'm using PowerPoint for training and have plans to incorporate Captivate in the near future. However, I feel the more skills that I can learn and develop in this class, the more effective I can be at work.

2) Three things anyone who knows me knows about me:* I LOVE chocolate* My family is VERY important to me* I LOVE the beach

Put it all together: I love spending time on the beach, with my family, eating chocolate! :)
